Seafarer Wellness Cell
We are pleased to announce the formation of the Seafarer Welfare Cell (SWC), an initiative aimed at enhancing the welfare, support, and overall well-being of the seafarers managed through the Scorpio Marine Management (SMM) office in Mumbai. Thanks to the valuable feedback from seafarers and office staff in setting up this new program, the SWC will:
- Provide Support to assist seafarers and their families with welfare, medical, or insurance-related concerns. It will serve as a bridge between the company and the seafarers, ensuring timely communication and resolution of issues.
- Promote Well-being: Implement programs and initiatives that support the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our seafarers.
- Ensure Compliance: Oversee the implementation of welfare policies and ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
Meet the Seafarer Welfare Cell
Ms. Haren Nayak, Seafarer Wellness Officer, who provides support directly to the seafarers and their families. She:
- Coordinates welfare activities and reports to the top management
- Implements wellness programs for seafarers
- Resolves seafarer’s concerns by directing them to the right person
Ms. Leonara Mendes, P&I Specialist, the main support contact for seafarers with queries related to medical and life insurance.
- Communicates with Seafarers and their families on medical cases
- Support Seafarers on queries related to medical and life insurance
- Coordinates with different departments on claim settlements
In-House Ombudsman
Captain Gopal Krishnan Menon, Independent Ombudsman, works with seafarers to address welfare concerns and represents their wellbeing.
- Direct contact for seafarers to address any welfare concerns Communicates
- Handles concerns independently with confidentiality, with sensitivity and without criticism.
- Works closely with top management
Posters have been distributed onboard with the above’s contact details. We encourage all seafarers managed by SMM to reach out to the SWC for any support or assistance. Whether it’s regarding personal issues, or general welfare, the SWC is there to help with confidentiality, sensitivity, and no criticism.
