A Journey of Insight Onboard STI Miracle
My sailing experience onboard STI Miracle was life changing.
I have been with Scorpio since 2015, beginning in a support role and gradually taking on broader responsibilities across the business. Over time, my work has evolved to include sustainability and ESG-related initiatives, alongside ongoing coordination and administrative support.
While I had previously visited a vessel, this was my first time sailing. I spent 10 days onboard, gaining firsthand exposure to daily operations at sea and life onboard. It was an experience that provided valuable perspective and context. I entered the vessel with an understanding shaped by office work and ESG reporting, but seeing the daily vessel operations transformed how I viewed our responsibilities. Watching routines, safety drills, and waste management practices unfold in real time revealed how disciplined, structured, and coordinated life at sea truly is. It gave me a clearer understanding of how our ESG expectations translate into daily action and how the crew interprets and applies those instructions each day.
Being onboard also deepened my appreciation for our seafarers. Seeing their work up close showed me the level of focus, resilience, and teamwork required to keep every journey safe and moving. Their dedication is woven into every task and witnessing it firsthand was both grounding and inspiring.

A significant part of my learning came from observing Capt. King Santos. He leads with a calm, steady presence that creates a comfortable environment for his crew. He often spoke about mentorship and guiding people toward the path they hope to take, sharing advice that was practical, sincere, and shaped by experience.
He emphasized the importance of rapport and respect, reminding the crew that smooth interactions, whether onboard or ashore, rely on sincerity and professionalism. For him, leadership is about supporting people genuinely and consistently.
Watching both the operations and the leadership onboard STI Miracle helped me understand how everything connects: the systems, the people, the culture, and the values. It gave me clarity, a renewed sense of purpose, and a deeper respect for the hardworking seafarers who bring each voyage to life.

Meet Cadet Rebecca Casas,
transforming her family’s future

A resilient Filipina sailor from a small town in Agusan del Sur, Philippines, Rebecca Casas has been charting her own course, one courageous step at a time.
Rebecca’s journey began far from the sea, in a farming family of eleven children, where hardship was part of daily life. While growing up with limited means shaped her determination, it was her search for better opportunities and a future she could build for herself that eventually led her to the maritime field. Over time, she discovered that she truly belonged there and saw it as a path where she could grow.
Her perseverance eventually led her to 88 Aces, where she found the support, respect, and safety that every cadet deserves. As the only woman onboard, she felt empowered, valued, and encouraged to continue developing her skills.
Today, Rebecca continues her path with one goal in sight: to become the first captain in her family and inspire her nephews, nieces, and the younger generation. Her story reminds us that resilience can carry you from the humblest beginnings to the widest horizons.
