Transparency over spin: How we approach our Sustainability Report
At Scorpio, we believe that transparency is essential in any communication, both for our colleagues and for external stakeholders. Whenever we prepare and publish the Sustainability Report, our aim remains straightforward. We want to describe our operations and impacts clearly, avoid embellishment, and provide readers with enough context to understand where we are strong, where we are improving, and where uncertainty remains. In a sector where greenwashing can be a real risk, we choose to keep the narrative grounded in the facts and let the work speak for itself.
What we focused on
Instead of lengthy storytelling, our report prioritizes clear, specific initiatives and highlights the tangible impacts they deliver. By doing so, we shift the focus away from extensive descriptions and toward practical actions and measurable outcomes. This approach ensures the report remains direct and relevant, reflecting our commitment to transparency and meaningful progress.
How we worked
The process was collaborative by design and grounded in the details of vessel and office operations. Jonathan Riccardi leads much of the data collection and ship-side information, coordinating with the operations and technical teams to ensure consistency and completeness. Laurice Oso supports the aggregation of shore-side work, including health and safety, governance, and training. This divide and conquer approach has served us well over several reporting cycles, and each year they take on a larger role as our practices mature.
Independent perspective
To keep the work aligned with evolving best practices and to reduce the risk of unintentional narrative bias, we engaged Position Green. As a trusted partner with deep experience supporting large shipping clients, Position Green helped us benchmark our methodology, pressure test our disclosures, and calibrate our report to what readers find useful. Their guidance ensured our focus remained on material topics and that our phrasing did not make claims that outpace evidence.
What comes next
We view transparency as an ongoing commitment. Our goal is to continuously enhance data quality, broaden coverage where it brings meaningful insights, and maintain clear, straightforward reporting on our progress. Your feedback is important to us, and we encourage suggestions on what you found most valuable and what you’d like addressed in future reports. If you have comments or requests for future topics, please reach out at sustainability[at]scorpiogroup[dot]net. Thank you to everyone across ships and shore who contributed, and to Jonathan Riccardi and Laurice Oso for their leadership in the process.
